The University of Cambridge has
recognised the specific issues for women undergraduates in the Sciences. These women are
in a significant minority and research showed that, when they left Cambridge, they often
accepted jobs that did not fully stretch them. Dr Felicity Hunt and Dr Nancy Lane convened
a steering group to address these issues and approached us to tailor the standard
Springboard programme for these women.

This specially adapted
programme for undergraduates has been hugely successful for several years and has
produced such good results that it was extended to include all women
undergraduates. This meant tailoring the programme again to include issues for women
undergraduates in the Arts.

Starting with us devising and delivering
a pilot workshop in Riga, organised by The British Council, this project progressed to 4
Latvian women being trained from scratch, firstly to become trainers and secondly to
develop their own training materials. After they had developed experience of delivering
the materials themselves, we devised a special course to train them to train other
women as trainers. As a result, a national network of trainers is now in place in
Latvia having grown from the 4 original pioneers. |
